Summer Vacation Perfect for Hardwood Floor Installation

Summer is one of the most popular times for home renovations. Luckily, you don’t even need to be home to benefit from a summer makeover--in fact, it’s often easier if you’re not! Pack up the kids and enjoy your vacation, then come home to a brand new look.

    How Long Does Installation Take?

Although it isn’t necessary for you to move out of your home during hardwood floor installation, it often makes it easier on everyone involved. The installation itself can take up to a week to complete. All of the extra tools, wood, and people in your home can be extremely disrupting to work around for this length of time, so it’s often easier to get the family out of the house altogether.

How Soon Can I Walk on the Floor?

Another reason to schedule hardwood flooring installation while you’re away is because you’ll need to stay off your floor immediately after installation. Typically, you can start to walk on it after about 6 hours in socks or slippers the day after.  Keep pets, furniture, and area rugs off the floor for at least several more days--preferably up to a week.

What Do I Need to Do before Installation?

Whether you’re planning on being at home or on vacation during the installation, it’s important to prepare your home beforehand. Remove as much furniture as you can from the floors to be replaced so they’re as bare as possible. If you need help moving heavy pieces of furniture, just let us know. It’s also helpful to clear off countertops and pick curtains off the floor. If you're going to be away, arrange to leave the key with us or in a drop box on your property.

Do I Have to Replace the Entire Floor?

The good news is that professional hardwood floor repair from Emperial Hardwood Floors Inc. can take care of many of the scratches, dents, and scuffs out of your floor and leave it looking like new. Like new floor installation, this process can take several days to finish, so you may still want to consider scheduling it for a time when you’re out of the home.
